The District of Saanich says it’s moving forward with a new concept plan for Panama Flats with an eye towards conserving the area’s natural space.
The updated concept plan includes protecting sensitive areas, creating a disturbance-free zone for migratory birds and other wildlife, pursuing river and water habitat restoration where possible, and maintaining storm water management.
The plan also calls for the continuation of recreational use in the area, such as through trails, leash and off-leash dog trails, educational signage and bird viewing areas.
The district describes the updated concept plan a “renewed vision,” and now that it’s been endorsed by council the next step is for district staff to determine the appropriate zoning for the area.
