KIRKWOOD, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A school community is rallying around a teacher who’s fighting cancer, and in the process, they’re helping others battling illness.
Traci Jansen teaches students about STEM at the Idea Lab at Keysor. But she’s had to take a break after being diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to regular screening, doctors caught it early.
Recently, the school held a coin drive. Students could bring in various coins and dollars, with each grade competing against the others. More than $3,000 was raised.
They also sold T-shirts titled “Keysor Roots for Jansen.”
On Wednesday, a check was presented to St. Luke’s Women’s Healthcare, which is helping Jansen in her battle. Students and staff also did a “health walk” alongside Jansen, her husband and her puppy Oshie.
