WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Groesbeck man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday in a 2024 drunken-driving incident that left his friend and co-worker dead and another friend critically injured.

Jurors in Waco’s 54th State District Court convicted 30-year-old Ryan Thomas Dabney of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in a March 2024 wreck in the 1200 block of East Herring Avenue in which Gavin Patrick was killed and Deacon Adkins was injured.

Besides the 20-year prison term, jurors also recommended that Judge Susan Kelly sentence Dabney to 10 years in prison on the intoxication assault conviction. He will serve the two sentences concurrently.
