Australian parents are pushing back against strict school lunch box policies, claiming the rules are now so strict they’re in a constant battle to make sure their kids don’t go hungry.

New research from the University of Adelaide has shed a light on the daily pressure families face trying to pack meals that are healthy, allergy-safe, eco-friendly and able to be eaten in under 10 minutes.

The study, conducted with 16 South Australian families, found most parents are prioritising food their children will actually eat over school-imposed rules.

“While parents aim to provide nutritious meals, concerns about whether children will eat the food often take precedence,” researchers said.
