WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - At a time when many Kansans are already struggling with high grocery prices, SNAP benefits- once referred to as food stamps- may not be distributed if the federal government continues its shutdown.
The Department of Children and Families says SNAP provides benefits for approximately 42 million people across the country. That includes a total distribution of more than $34.4 million to more than 93,000 Kansas households – nearly 188,000 Kansans each month. If the government remains shut down, this money will not reach the pockets and people who need it most.
