PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Wednesday, state lawmakers concluded their final summer study meeting on the issue of property taxes.
These meetings have produced a variety of ideas on how to reduce property taxes in the state. The question is, will lawmakers be able to filter through all of them and come up with effective solutions come the end of the legislative session?
Nathan Sanderson with the South Dakota Retailers’ Association said, in short, the committee left too many options on the table.
“It’s a new one on me. We’re not really driving to some sort of consensus; we’re throwing a lot of things out there to see what sticks. So, I’m sure we’re going to be talking about this in March 2026, the same way we’re talking about it today,” Sanderson said.
