HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The new Grand Island Diamond League team announced six finalists for the team’s name:
- Hoppers, referencing the grasshoppers in the region.
- Hot Shots, a reference to high priority trains through the area.
- Thunder Cows, a play on the farm animal.
- Fighting Cranes, a reference to migratory sandhill cranes.
- Spikers, a reference to railroad spikes.
- Mammoths, referencing the prehistoric animal.
The finalists were selected from a pool of more than 50 different names submitted by residents. Fans can cast their vote here . Each voter will receive a complimentary ticket to a game.
The new Diamond League will begin play in 2026, and it features teams from Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.
