DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A college English assignment has breathed new life into a 45-year-old murder case that had gone cold.
Lindsay Schaefer, an English instructor at St. Ambrose University, assigned her “True-ish Crime” literature students to create a podcast as a midterm project focused on Quad-Cities cold cases. One group selected the Roger Warren case.
The three students, Keandre Miles, Junino Almeida and Joshua Adebola, were able to uncover previously unknown details in the strangulation death of 12-year-old Roger Warren of Davenport on Sunday, Aug. 19, 1979.
Six days later, on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 25, officials recovered his body from the Mississippi River about a mile downstream from the bridge where he’d last been seen playing with his younger brother.
