CHEYENNE – On Wednesday, the Rev. Hilton J. McClendon Sr. was recognized for his service to the community with the 28th annual Community Spirit Award from the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
McClendon’s volunteerism is marked by supporting the homeless population, uniting cultures and being a community faith leader.
He accepted the award in front of an audience of friends and family at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum. During the ceremony, his acceptance speech focused on giving thanks to God and others who have supported him throughout his life.
“I want to acknowledge people, because you can't do nothing unless you have somebody helping you,” he said. “When I first came here (to Cheyenne), whether you all know it or not, I was homeless — my family, we were homeless.”
