LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is making a short move downtown.

Interim Sheriff David James helped cut the ribbon Wednesday morning on a modernized headquarters on West Market Street.

The sheriff’s office had been housed in the Fiscal Court Building for the past 75 years.

The new facility includes training space named in honor of the late Sheriff John Aubrey, who passed away last month.

“I am sad that Sheriff Aubrey never got to move into the building, but the employees here are very excited. I really can’t describe the difference between the old building and the new building. It is amazing. It’s just a much better work environment and the employees will be much more productive. And we will be able to serve the citizens better,” James said.
