GROVETON, Texas (KTRE) - After a pipe burst at the 100-year-old Trinity County Jail Monday morning, inmates, dispatchers, and officers were all hands-on deck to help save documentation and equipment.

“There’s lots of issues when you have infrastructure that’s breaking down like we have. And it’s a huge safety concern for not only the inmates that are kept upstairs but also the employees that we have downstairs,” Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said.

While everyone was inside trying to save paperwork, computers, and expensive machinery, Wallace says that even that wasn’t enough— and they had to call people off patrol to help.

“Everybody was off the street for probably half a day, if not more than that, to fix this mess,” he said.
