LUBBOCK, Texas -- After over three weeks of the government shutdown, Abby Reed with Family Guidance and Outreach in Lubbock explained that the longer the shutdown goes, the closer government-assisted programs are to being affected.

"When the government shutdown happened, a lot of these benefits had already been dispersed," Reed said. "Once we get to October 27th, which is next week, I mean, that's coming up in a few days. That's when we're going to start to see some of those programs, not all of them, not yet, once November gets here, some of them are going to be affected."

This would include programs like WIC, SNAP and Medicaid.

"More than 40,000 people in Lubbock County are receiving SNAP benefits right now. So that 40,000 people or more will be affected," Reed said. "If they're also
