BOISE, Idaho — Shoshone County Sheriff Holly Lindsay announced her resignation on Wednesday, one day after being involved in an off-duty traffic accident in her personal vehicle.

Lindsay submitted her resignation letter to the county, addressed to the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office and the community, on Oct. 22, citing the accident as the reason for her departure after 21 years in law enforcement.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must resign from the position of Shoshone County sheriff," Lindsay wrote in her resignation letter.

The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office said it contacted the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office to investigate an Oct. 21 accident. KTVB reached out to Kootenai County regarding the accident, but has yet to hear back at the time of publication.
