Outcry over Downs parking charges as council move could affect 'eyesore' View Image

Bristol Live readers have been discussing the news that parking charges are expected to be introduced on the Downs as part of Bristol City Council ’s annual budget plans to raise income.

New pay-and-display machines are forecast to bring in £200,000 a year once they are installed in April 2027. A separate plan would introduce the same hourly parking rate across Bristol rather than the current mix of prices for different times of day. This is expected to generate a further five hundred thousand pounds a year.

Both measures appear in the council’s financial plans for the twenty twenty six to twenty twenty seven period and are now open for public consultation. Similar ideas have already caused friction
