Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has continued to defend her government’s bail laws despite three men charged with the “shocking” Luna Park machete attack being freed.

Three young men appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday following a violent machete attack that occurred outside Melbourne’s Luna Park on Sunday, just metres away from patrons lining up to see a world-renowned comedian at the iconic Palais Theatre.

Victoria Police alleged the three men, aged 18,19 and 21, were involved in an altercation with a rival group on St Kilda’s Cavell Street at about 6.35pm, which resulted in two people being left with cuts from a machete.
