Brand new 5p coins featuring the first new design for the coin in 17 years are entering circulation.
Brits are being urged to check their change to see if they have picked up one of the new coins, of which there will be 23.2 million released for public use, the Royal Mint has announced.
The coins feature the official portrait of King Charles III as well as the new oak tree leaf design on the reverse.
Dated and minted in October 2023, the coins are being released due to increased demand for five pence pieces, the Mint said.
The release marks the first time that 5p coins featuring the King’s official portrait have entered circulation, following on from the release of the King Charles 50p and £1 coin.
