Third Avenue house collapses after fire

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) - Crews are at the scene of a fire in the 700 block of North Third Avenue.

A call reporting the fire came in just before four on Thursday. After firefighters arrived, they called for a defensive attack, meaning fighting the fire from the outside only. Minutes later, the exterior walls of the house reportedly began to collapse.

Our crew at the scene says the smoke and glow of flames could be seen from miles away. Firefighters indicated that a home next to the fire was also damaged.
