A former barracks used to house asylum seekers is set to be emptied by the end of the year, the government says.
In an update published yesterday, the Home Office says it plans to “complete site decant” of Napier Barracks in Folkestone ”by the end of December”.
It will then hand the land back to the Ministry of Defence (MoD), which will then pass it over to Taylor Wimpey to redevelop the site for housing.
The Home Office website states: “The Home Office plans to complete site decant by the end of December 2025 and hand back the Napier site to the MoD in January 2026, ahead of onward transfer to a Housing Developer who has purchased the site in March 2026.”
Previously, the government said it would stop using the site by March this year, before extending the deadline to September.
