JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - We are now entering Day 22 of the government shutdown, which is on track to becoming the longest in the nation’s history.

While Congress fights to pass a federal spending bill, many who receive government benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program could begin to feel the effects.

On Wednesday, leaders with the Mississippi Department of Human Services told 3 On Your Side they received notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service.

They were notified that, if the federal government shutdown continues, federally funded SNAP benefits for November will not be available.

The department has been directed to pause the November issuance while pending further guidance from their federal partners.
