LEXINGTON, Ky. — A literal link between history and art is now reflecting across downtown Lexington.
The city has a brand-new centerpiece, "A Common Thread," sharing 250 years' worth of life and stories.
“'A Common Thread' is bold," said Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton. "It's futuristic. It is forward-thinking, much like the city it represents."
An $850,000 sculpture, plus $50,000 for preservation, was created by California artist Benjamin Ball, celebrating the city’s 250th anniversary.
Community members, along with visitors from Lexington's sister cities program from Japan, Ireland and the U.K., came together to unveil the completed monument.
Of several artists, Ball's proposal caught the attention of a selection committee. Eighteen months later, these metallic spheres, linked together,
