The age old adage, “take care of your land, and your land will take care of you”, still rings true today.

Bryan Shaw, the former chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, maintains that the agriculture industry has stepped up to supply more with less - but he says they’re not getting credit for doing so in an environmentally friendly way.

“The greatest stewards of the land are the folks in agriculture that rely on that land. If you look at what’s going on across the countryside, agriculture is doing what they can to preserve that heritage and to pass that on, especially the family farm,” Shaw said.

The president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers association, Carl Ray Polk, agrees with Shaw, insisting that producers are the true environmental stewards.
