MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The Trump administration and the European Union have hit Russia with new sanctions in an attempt to force Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table to end the war in Ukraine.

The sanctions target Russia's oil industry .

The White House says that it is the economic engine allowing the Kremlin to fund its war effort.

The move follows months of calls from Ukraine's president for world leaders to hit Russia harder on oil.
