Quebec’s Crown prosecutor’s office will not pursue charges against Montreal police for its handling of the case that ended with two people dead inside a car in St-Léonard in October 2024.

The deaths _—_ which followed missing persons reports for both Giuseppe Arcuri, 59, and his mother, Lucia Giovanna Arcuri, 76 _—_ triggered investigations from both the Sûreté du Québec and the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, the police watchdog tasked with investigating police actions.

The police watchdog issued its report to the prosecutor’s office, which opted not to press charges against police, having found that the actions of the officer under investigation “were not incompatible with those that would have been taken by a reasonably cautious officer in the same circumstances.”
