EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The net economic impact of the Michigan State University vs. University of Michigan football game is expected to exceed $29 million, according to a new analysis by the consulting firm Anderson Economic Group (AEG).
The study estimates a direct economic impact of nearly $18 million on East Lansing, with total attendee expenditures of approximately $13.8 million after accounting for substitution effects.
AEG conducted the analysis using a methodology that considers both direct spending and additional indirect economic activity.
The firm also factored in substitution effects, such as spending that leaves the area and potential lost spending from other activities displaced by the game.
