The New York Mets were hoping to build on a Cinderella run to the National League Championship Series last year with a major infusion of talent for this season, but they came up well short.

Even after signing Juan Soto and forging reunions with players like Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea, the Mets missed the playoffs entirely. But that seems unlikely to deter team owner Steve Cohen from signing off on some more high-priced additions and reunions.

The team could be in the market for a frontline starter like Dylan Cease or Framber Valdez after its rotation saw the wheels fall off in the second half of the season. And it’s also likely to find a way to bring back All-Star closer Edwin Diaz, who can opt out of his contract this winter after another strong season in Queens.
