Haryana seeks CBI probe into death of ex-Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa’s son

Chandigarh, October 23, 2025:

The Haryana government has asked the Union government to hand over the investigation into the death of Aqil Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, to the Central Bureau of Investigation, a senior state official said on Wednesday.

The move follows an FIR registered by Panchkula Police on Tuesday naming Mustafa, his wife and former Punjab minister Razia Sultana, their daughter and daughter-in-law on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.

Akhtar, 35, was found unresponsive at his Panchkula residence on October 16 and was declared brought dead at a government hospital. Preliminary inputs indicated a suspected overdose of medicines, even as police proceedings continue.
