Big Don’s Smoked Meats will host a huge one-day charity event to help small businesses affected by the recent Morley Market fires.
Big Don’s owner and City of Bayswater West ward council candidate Donovan MacDonald announced on social media last week that the event would be held on October 4 at the business’ Bayswater location.
Mr MacDonald said he hoped to raise $100,000 for the “around 30 small businesses” impacted by the devasting blaze that ripped through Morley Markets in the early hours on Wednesday morning last week.
“Everyone there has some form of insurance, but it won’t cover interruption; most of these people aren’t going to be able to pay their own personal bills,” he said.
Within 24 hours, 200 volunteers had already signed up to help.
