The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has filed an official request to use a mediator in its negotiations with the union representing bus drivers and metro operators (CUPE 1983) in order to reach an agreement and avoid a strike.

On Wednesday, the union announced their members will strike for Nov. 1, 15 and 16. Paratransit service will continue to operate.

This union represents approximately 4,500 bus drivers, metro operators and station agents whose collective agreement expired on Jan. 5, 2025. It would be the first such strike involving this group in nearly 40 years.
