SALT LAKE CITY — Police officers say a “novelty grenade” prompted heavy police presence and an evacuation in South Jordan on Wednesday night.
Shaun Becker with the South Jordan Police Department said a man called the police because he believed there was an explosive device in his vehicle.
Officers directed the man to park in a parking lot near The Pie Pizzeria, where they could then assess the device. Police evacuated the nearby Pie Pizzeria and library to prevent any casualties.
Upon further examination, the device was determined to be a “novelty grenade,” rather than an explosive device.
The South Jordan Police Department was assisted by the UPD bomb squad.
