JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC/WTOC) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says a Summerville man has been identified as a suspect in a Wednesday bank robbery in the Bluffton area.

Elton Clinton Atkins, 46, will be taken to Jasper County to face charges in the robbery at TD Bank on University Parkway, deputies say.

Jasper County dispatchers received a call on Wednesday about a robbery in progress at the bank, and when Jasper County deputies and officers with the Hardeeville Police Department arrived, they learned the robber left the area on a bicycle.

Detectives say they learned the man, who they identify as Atkins, got into a small white SUV and left the area. Investigators found the bicycle in a nearby wooded area and say the SUV was spotted a few hours later.
