The surprise departure of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing will give the scandal-hit show a chance to “reset”, insiders have said.

Winkleman had been considering leaving for some time and was now free to explore presenting opportunities with US streaming giants, industry figures said.

Their exit may mark a refresh of the format, which could include cost-cutting measures such as moving to a single presenter, amid fears the show has become “tired”.

Daly has presented Strictly since the first series 21 years ago. Winkleman joined in 2014, having hosted its sister show, It Takes Two , since 2004. New Feature
