PRESTON, Minn. – Killing a pedestrian in Fillmore County results in up to 204 days in jail for a Fillmore County man.
Brian Wayne Nelson, 52 of Harmony, pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide in the death of Cale Jackson, 23 of Cresco, Iowa.
The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office says Nelson was driving drunk a little after midnight on August 4, 2024, when he struck and killed Jackson on County Road 30.
According to court documents, Nelson first claimed he was driving along when he saw something lying in the road and couldn't stop or swerve to avoid it. Nelson said he thought he had hit some roadkill and continued on to Granger to meet up with some friends at a bar.
Investigators say Nelson told the bartender that Nelson thought he may have run someone over. As Nelson and some of
