PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — In what they are calling an act of solidarity with federal workers, the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation has requested their federal pay be withheld for the duration of the ongoing government shutdown.

In a joint statement, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, along with Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo said that they had put in this request.

The statement reads, in part:

Emphasizing the need for a bipartisan solution to responsibly reopen the government and save Americans’ health care, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo have all publicly announced they will decline their paychecks until the federal government is reopened and public servants are paid.
