Police in northern Warren County warned residents this week of an attack on an elderly couple by a rabid cat.

Blairstown Township police said officers and the Blairstown Ambulance Corps responded to the incident Tuesday on Kishpaugh Road.

Responders attended to the couple’s wounds and called in the township’s animal control officer, who was able to capture the cat.

“The cat had signs of injury to its face from a wild animal and was sent to the State Health Department lab to be tested for rabies,” the northwestern New Jersey police department posted to Facebook. “The test results were expedited due to human contact and visible signs of injury to the cat from a wild animal. The cat tested Positive for rabies .”
