Residents are in a flap over a town center being given a “boost” with new art of seagulls .

The large mural of the birds swooping to steal chips has been painted on a chip shop in Taunton, Somerset.

It is part of a project to bring “color and interest” to an independent area.

Local traders raised $6,500 to have the art installed by artist Sam Gaden from Aerosol Art.

Some locals love it and some don’t.

One posted: ”Love the mural, hate the birds , I have my reasons.”

Another said: ”Isn’t it bad enough we have to fight them off half the time, do we need to see them painted on shops?

”They are a menace.”

One added: ”I’ve been done by the winged muggers countless times.”

But another said: ”This is AMAZING! I love that sneaky gull, peering round the corner😆ðŸ˜
