OHIO, USA — The future of high school athletes cashing in on their name, image, and likeness, also known as NIL, could soon change in Ohio.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) set the dates for an emergency vote that could determine whether student-athletes will be allowed to profit from sponsorships. That vote will take place from Nov. 17 through Nov. 21.

Right now, Ohio is one of only a handful of states that bans high schoolers from signing NIL deals.

Earlier this week, a Franklin County judge temporarily blocked that ban, clearing the way for athletes to sign a deal and make money.

The upcoming vote will determine whether the OHSAA makes that temporary change permanent.
