A Honduran national will spend decades in prison and then be deported from the country after confessing to murdering his friend on Long Island.

Jeremias Anaribamoran, 48, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting 40-year-old Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo outside the victim’s Central Islip home.

Anaribamoran admitted that the pair, who had been drinking and socializing together earlier in the day, began arguing while sitting in the back seat of a car parked outside Godinez-Carcamo’s Anne Lane residence just before midnight Saturday, March 15.

The dispute escalated when Anaribamoran pulled a 9mm pistol and opened fire, striking Godinez-Carcamo three times, prosecutors said. Godinez-Carcamo fled on foot toward his home less than a half mile away but collapsed shortly after.

Responding Suffolk County Police officers and Central Islip Volunteer Ambulance personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Godinez-Carcamo was pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital. An autopsy revealed he suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and right arm.

Police arrested Anaribamoran three days later after surveilling his home. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in September.

“This senseless act of violence took Mr. Godinez-Carcamo’s life,” said Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney. “Today’s sentence will ensure that the defendant will no longer be a threat to public safety.”

Federal immigration authorities have lodged a detainer against Anaribamoran, meaning he will be turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) once his state sentence is complete.

After serving 25 years to life, he will face deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.
