CUSTER – Led by the usual suspects, the Mason County Eastern girls and boys cross country teams each had good showings at the Cardinal Classic on Tuesday despite the inclement weather that pelted one and all with waves of rain throughout the meet.
The Cardinal girls had just enough depth to take down West Michigan D League rival Pentwater, 32-33 while the boys were nosed out by Grand Rapids Union by one point, 37-38.
“The weather was a factor, but we still had some pretty good times,” Cardinal head coach Ben Knizacky said.
“Addy (Malburg) ran a great race today. She had a PR (personal record). Afton (Shoup) moved up really well (for the boys).
“John (Anderson) ran a better race today. It went well. For a rainy day, we’re happy.”
Pentwater junior Bailey Case was the individual winner,
