PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Fewer people were in the courtroom Thursday as the fourth day of the trial of Sean Grayson, a former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy, began.

The ex-deputy is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing Sonya Massey in her Springfield home on July 6, last year.

25 News reports a fifth witness on the list, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Technician Adam Markwell, described and confirmed three shell casings that were shown in the courtroom, along with the medical kit were used at the scene.

Markwell said he returned to the scene two days after the shooting to collect a third shell casing after viewing body camera footage and realizing there were three shots fired.

He also said he attended Massey’s autopsy to collect cloth
