AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- As the Government Shutdown continues, nearly 42 million people in the United States could lose SNAP benefits soon.

On November 1, SNAP benefits may pause or be delayed if the federal government doesn't vote to pass a budget before then. Local food banks are gearing up for a rush as people who depend on those benefits scramble to feed their families.

"We've been preparing internally, we've been preparing our staff. We've been preparing our hunger relief partners," explained Pricilla Elliot, Public Affairs Specialist at Golden Harvest. "We've just been trying to educate them on what's going on, kind of getting rid of some of that fear that they have, kind of trying to ease that fear. Like we see it, we're feeling it. You know, we're spending more on food."
