State emergency officials pleaded with Lucas County residents to opt in to local alerts, holding a news conference in Point Place — the site of the county’s most recent disaster.

Andy Wilson, director of Ohio’s Department of Public Safety, said taking the initiative to sign up for emergency notifications is crucial to preparing for natural disasters.

“We know, without a doubt, that one of the best ways that you can protect yourself from disasters, whether that’s natural or man-made, is by having the information you need to take the steps necessary to keep you and your family safe,” Mr. Wilson said.
