Jerry Stalcup, a standout football player for Rockford East and the University of Wisconsin before going on to coach at East, Harlem, Orangeville and Dakota, recently passed away at 86.
Stalcup's visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. The services are expected to, fittingly, give fans enough time to still make kickoff as one-loss Harlem takes on undefeated Belvidere North in Belvidere at around 7:15 p.m. that night. Stalcup was the head coach of Harlem's first NIC-10 championship in football in 1977, and he was then the defensive coordinator the next time they won it in 1997. This year's Huskies would tie North, and possibly Guilford, for the NIC-10 ch
