A Joliette real-estate developer who ordered two men to shoot a lawyer inside his home was sentenced to a prison term that is significantly more lenient than the sentences received by the men who carried out the attack.
Jean-François Malo, 47, was again nowhere to be found at the Longueuil courthouse on Thursday when Quebec Court Judge Denys Noël sentenced him to a five-year prison term for what happened to lawyer Nicholas Daudelin on March 26, 2020 at his home in Mont St-Hilaire.
At the time, Daudelin was mandated by Desjardins Financial Services to take legal action against Malo. The civil proceedings involved several million dollars and Malo was alleged to have committed fraud and extortion to get his way in his transactions.
