Target has announced the elimination of 1,800 corporate roles, including 1,000 layoffs as it looks to return to growth after a turbulent year.

The retailer – whose main corporate offices are in the Twin Cities, employing more than 7,000 staff in downtown Minneapolis alone – ordered all of its HQ staff to work from home through next week, with staff members informed of their status this coming Tuesday.

The 1,800 position cuts comprise of 800 roles that will not be filled, and 1,000 layoffs, per the Wall Street Journal.

The announcement was made in an internal memo by incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke, who takes over from outgoing chief Brian Cornell in February.
