PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was one of more than 30 people arrested as part of a massive two-pronged federal probe into Mafia-related sports betting and gambling allegations.
Billups is facing federal conspiracy charges related to money laundering and wire fraud, according to one of the indictments. The Blazers coach is accused of taking part in rigged poker games staged in Las Vegas that were run by high-profile New York Mafia families.
Billups is not charged in a separate federal indictment on illegal sports gambling.
However, that indictment references "Co-Conspirator 8," a person who lived in Oregon and was an "NBA player from approximately 1997 through 2014, and an NBA coach since at least 2021."
Billups played in the NBA from 1997 through
