GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Dozens of volunteers in red vests walked around Project Connect on Thursday morning, taking time out of their days to help guide people through the resources available at the event in the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center.

Project Connect is a one-day event that brings together people experiencing homelessness, housing instability or financial hardship, connecting them with essential services and support.

Each guest receives a hygiene kit, filled with basic items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste and razors, to help restore dignity and comfort as they take steps toward stability.

The volunteers ranged in age from high schoolers to retirees. Penny Allen, a volunteer for Project Connect, said this is her first year participating and she plans to return in future years.
