FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana State Police are sharing tips for avoiding collisions with deer as they become more prevalent near roadways.
Last year, there with more than 17,000 deer-related crashes in Indiana, the agency says. More than 700 resulted in injuries, and 9 of the crashes were fatal.
ISP’s Peru Post says drivers should:
Be cautious at dusk and dawn;
Keep an eye out for deer crossing signs;
Look for other deer if you spot one;
Use high beams at night if there is no oncoming traffic to increase visibility;
Do not swerve because it puts drivers at a greater risk for a more serious collision; and
Report any deer-related crashes for accident reports to submit for insurance.
