The Mets could be bracing for a big-time shake-up this offseason, and it starts at first base. Pete Alonso’s free agency looms large, and while the idea of replacing him does sound simple on paper, finding someone who can match his production is a whole different game. Per several rumors, though, there’s one former Mets star who could lure Alonso to Boston.

According to MLB.com, Alonso is now set to opt out of his contract, putting one of baseball’s most consistent power bats on the open market. Having debuted in 2019, he’s averaged 41 home runs per season, ranking only behind Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber in total long balls.
