Dozens of local cardroom employees protested proposed regulations that they fear would decimate cardrooms, a move they say is politically motivated by California Indian tribes.

The backstory: Attorney General Rob Bonta has proposed new regulations on cardrooms focusing on two elements of their operations: the role of player-dealers and blackjack-style games. • The regulations would require the player-dealer position to only be occupied by a person seated at the table, and players would not be allowed to place a wager directly against a Third-Party Provider of Proposition Player Services (TPPPS) who is not occupying the player-dealer position, among other rules. • Cardrooms use TPPPS
