MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Officials from the city of Burlington and the state of Vermont have been working for weeks on how to address community safety challenges in the Queen City.
Vermont Governor Phil Scott on Thursday announced a 14-point plan that he says will help residents and visitors "enjoy all the attributes [the] historic city has to offer."
Under the plan, a special prosecutor - Zach Weight, as announced last week - will begin prosecuting Chittenden County defendants who have five or more cases ongoing.
Other parts of the governor's plan include state law enforcement assisting with foot patrols in Burlington, the Vermont Department of Health helping to dispose of and exchange syringes that might otherwise be left in the streets, and coordinating with UVM and city resid
